Cowboys' Star Pass Rusher DeMarcus Lawrence Out 'Indefinitely' With Broken Foot

Dallas Cowboys' top defensive end DeMarcus "Tank" Lawrence will be sidelined for an estimated 6-8 weeks after an MRI on Wednesday confirmed a broken foot injury. Tank was pulled out of Wednesday's practice and immediately evaluated.

NFL's Ian Rapoport additionally confirmed that Tank Lawrence broke "the fifth-metatarsal in his foot and will need surgery."

He added, "If all goes well, he should be back in November. A big loss, but not season-ending."

Tank is a staple of the Cowboys defense, so this is a tremendous loss for Big D and the fan base. It hits particularly hard after their 2020 season was hindered by the season-ending injury to Dak Prescott. While Lawrence's injury is not season-ending, the news does derail the Cowboys' outlook as prime NFC contenders.

Lawrence is also working to fully recover from a back injury that required surgery in the offseason, which forced him to start on the PUP list.

The Dallas pass rusher was a standout in 2020, recording 6.5 sacks, 37 quarterback pressures and 4 forced fumbles, three categories in which he led the team. He also recorded a career-high 24 assisted tackles.

After totaling 25 sacks between 2017 and 2018, the defensive end signed a five-year, $105 million ($65 million guaranteed) deal with the Cowboys. Tank has been the team leader in sacks in three of the past four seasons.
