Clay Travis On Brian Flores Lawsuit: 'A Mess For The NFL'
With former Dolphins head coach Brian Flores suing the NFL and three teams over racism in the hiring process, OutKick's Clay Travis isn't sold that all the evidence lines up.
Travis appeared on FOX News Wednesday morning, and said that while the NFL has a mess on its hands from a public relations standpoint, Flores' racism claims don't have strong enough evidence to carry weight.
"If you look at those three allegations of racial discrimination, they do not to me from a legal perspective add up to a very strong case at all," Travis said. "There is strong evidence that those were not racially motivated, if the teams want to defend themselves as they already are."
Flores, 40, has made racism allegations against the Broncos, Giants and Dolphins. Flores alleges that during an interview with the Broncos in 2019, Denver executives, including general manager John Elway, showed up late to the interview and appeared to have been drinking the night before.
Flores also engaged in a text message exchange with Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, who told Flores he would be getting the Giants head coaching job. Flores was set to interview with New York a few days later. The problem, however, was that Belichick was texting with the wrong Brian -- instead meaning to text Brian Daboll, who eventually was hired by the Giants.
Then there's Flores' time with the Dolphins, in which he claims that owner Stephen Ross offered him $100,000 per loss in order to tank for a higher draft pick during the 2019 season. Flores was fired after the 2021 season after going 24-25 in three seasons.
Travis said the timing of the complaints are interesting, given that Flores is reportedly in play for the Texans and Saints head coaching jobs.
"To me, reading the complaint, it seems rooted in anger," Travis said. "That he was fired by the Miami Dolphins in the first place... but also that he was really angry that he desperately wanted that Giants job and felt that he was disrespected, when according to those messages from Bill Belichick, the Giants might've already had their guy in Brian Daboll before they even interviewed him."
