Chiefs CB Charvarius Ward Back With Team After Signing Restricted Free-Agent Tender

The defending AFC Champion Kansas City Chiefs have a new deal in place with cornerback Charvarius Ward, as he's inked his restricted free-agent tender for 2021.

The deal for Ward means he'll make a base salary of $3.384 million in 2021.

The restricted free-agent tender for Ward puts him at the second-round level during the offseason, a source with The Kansas City Star confirmed Thursday morning.

Ward came into the league as an undrafted free agent back in the 2018 season. He was originally a member of the Dallas Cowboys.

He started a pair of games in 2018, and then the Cowboys used him as a trade chip, moving him to the Chiefs shortly before the start of the regular season.

Ward became a mainstay with the first-team defense over the past two seasons, starting 29 games.

Since 2019, he has totaled 125 tackles, two interceptions, 16 passes defensed, a sack and three quarterback hits while helping the Chiefs make two straight Super Bowl appearances.

Kansas City inking Ward was a big move, as the team needed a solid veteran to replace corner Bashaud Breeland, who left for the Minnesota Vikings.

The Chiefs do have others who can step in, but having Ward on the roster can only help as he and the team look to make it to a third straight Super Bowl in February of 2022.
