Carson Wentz 'Not Limited In Any Way' ... Adjust Colts Bets Accordingly
Carson Wentz will be making his first start for the Indianapolis Colts against the Seattle Seahawks, and Colts head coach Frank Reich says the quarterback won't be limited in any way.
But as Wentz is coming back from foot surgery he had in August, the team will be cautious with their new franchise quarterback.
"As far as what he can do, he can do everything," Reich said, via NFL.com. "What will we actually call? Will we keep the reins on a little bit? Probably. Probably so. I just think that makes sense. I just think we'll manage it. We'll be smart. There's some stuff in (the game plan) that we might call, but if we don't have to call it -- 'Oh, let's not take that chance.' But I think he's good. Every indication is he's not limited in any way."
Wentz is playing his first game with Reich as his coach since 2017, back when the Colts head coach was the offensive coordinator of the Philadelphia Eagles.
Wentz was crucial toward helping the Eagles win their first Super Bowl, getting Philadelphia to an 11-2 start and the NFC East title. He completed 60.2% of his passes for 3,296 yards, 33 touchdowns, seven interceptions, and a 101.9 passer rating in 13 games of that 2017 season, setting the franchise record for touchdown passes in a season. Despite missing the last three games with a torn ACL and MCL, Wentz finished second in the league in touchdown passes, CBS Sports reports.
Wentz is familiar with Reich's offense, making the time he missed in the preseason due to the foot surgery much easier to come back from.
"The good thing is – it's fair, but we don't have to throw anything at him," Reich said. "We have it narrowed down for a game plan. So, it's whatever is on that call sheet and I'm sure he probably has it memorized by now. Now it's just a question of going over and over it and just playing it out, visualizing it in your mind, going through all the progressions, getting the ball out on time, making the right checks.
"Just play the position and be yourself. Don't put too much pressure on yourself, just go out there and play a good football game."
