Cam Newton Gets The Jab Hoping It'll Help Him Land On An NFL Roster

After grabbing the NFL media's attention over his unvaccinated status in the offseason, Cam Newton has announced that he is now fully vaccinated and ready to join a team.

The news was first reported by NFL Network's Mike Garafolo and comes as Newton is still vying for his spot on an NFL roster. Newton's unvaccinated status was discussed upon his exit from the New England Patriots in August ahead of final roster cuts.

First-round pick Mac Jones usurped Newton on the depth chart. Jones has been the lead play caller for Josh McDaniels' offense, insinuating that Newton's vaccinated status was not the only cause for his ousting from New England. After getting released by the team, reports surfaced that Newton was having a difficult time understanding the offensive scheme by McDaniels —  even going to Jones for some help grasping the playbook.

New England cut both Newton and veteran Brian Hoyer in order to land a 52 man roster, but brought back Hoyer a day later to join the practice squad.

The former MVP started 15 games for Bill Belichick's Patriots in 2020: throwing for 2,657 yards, eight touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
