Buzz Continues To Grow Around Chiefs Rookie TE Noah Gray

The Andy Reid-Kansas City Chiefs effect is already working its magic on rookie tight end, Noah Gray.

In an interview with USAToday.com, Andy Reid gave his thoughts on Gray's first impressions from his time in training camps, and what fans can expect from the rookie's upcoming debut.

"He’s a smart kid and he works hard,” said Reid in the interview. “You can see that. You can see that he’s a good route-runner. There’s more to that spot than just doing that, so we’ll see once he gets pads on, but he sure is willing to do whatever we’ve asked. And you get a sense that he’s quarterback-friendly so that always helps if you’re a receiver. If quarterbacks like throwing the ball to you, that’s a plus, and he’s presented himself that way so far.”

Reports from Chiefs training camp have been rolling out in favor of the 2021 fifth-round pick. Gray's skillset on the field has impressed Kansas City's coaching staff — and star quarterback Patrick Mahomes — with his natural ability of finding open spots on the field, thus finding the ball from Mahomes.

The QB for the Chiefs gave his own positive reviews on playing with the rookie after the early OTA period, according to the report from MSN. "(Noah) knows how to get himself open even if it’s not exactly what the play is designed to do,” said Mahomes.

Drafted out of Duke, Noah Gray's draft profile cited some warnings against the tight end's ability as a receiver, specifically for a stiffness in his route running that kept the prospect player from finding a seam down the field.

Andy Reid's play calling and dynamic passing attack has made stars in the league out of players like Travis Kelce, Tyreek Hill and other young talents on the roster. Even with the ascending Noah Gray having a great OTA period, the Chiefs will rely on their veteran duo of Hill-Kelce to continue leading one of the best receiving corps in the NFL.

In the second tier of Chiefs receivers, Mecole Hardman has showcased great bursts of versatility as a receiver and punt/kick returner. With a speed to match Tyreek Hill's, Hardman remains a player to watch for a KC team seeking its third consecutive Super Bowl appearance.
