Broncos Bringing in QB Kyle Shurmer, Son of Offensive Coordinator

The Denver Broncos need a quarterback. Offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur has a son.

It's a match made in NFL heaven, no?

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Broncos are bringing in Kyle Shurmur, Pat's kid, to help man the iffy QB post. Talk about nepotism.

But hey, when you're as desperate as the Broncos, there are no restrictions.

Besides, Shurmur probably won't start. At least, the Broncos sure hope he doesn't. Word is that regular starter Drew Lock is expected to be cleared to return for Sunday night's game against the defending Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs. Whether Lock actually wants to return for the game, of course, is a different matter entirely.

All other Denver QBs are expected to remain on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Kyle Shurmur was actually a member of the Chiefs last season, but he has not been in the NFL at all this year. You would think he's still a better option than Kendall Hilton, a practice squad receiver who lined up behind center in the Broncos' 31-3 loss to the New Orleans Saints.

Of course, Shurmur can't just start practicing. He has to clear the COVID-19 protocols first. That's just the way it is with Denver QBs these days, whether your dad is a coach or not.
