Baker Thinks The Browns Are Ready To Rock In 2021

Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield is entering his fourth season, his senior season, in the NFL. By now, all of the freshman jitters should be worked out and the bugs fixed. There’s no more building for the future or trying to fix a broken culture. Winning is the No. 1 goal at this point.

To his credit, Mayfield seems completely dialed in to start the 2021 season. He didn’t need the extra reps in the Browns’ third and final preseason game, but he took them anyways, because he just wants to get better and better.

"Baker's such a competitor," head coach Kevin Stefanski said. "He just loves it out there and he wanted to compete against another team."

In his one quarter of play, behind an offensive line that returned all five of its starters, Baker looked crisp.

He finished 6-of-10 for 113 yards and one touchdown, a beautiful 22-yard pass to the left pylon for receiver KhaDarel Hodge. The Browns won the game 19-10 and finished the preseason a perfect 3-0.

Their pristine record will be tested immediately, though, as the Browns will travel to Arrowhead to face the formidable Chiefs in Week 1’s marquee matchup.

All told, it’s the most anticipated Browns season in decades, and it all rests on the shoulders of a 26-year-old NFL ‘senior’ quarterback with a gunslinger’s mentality and a jumpy trigger finger. After the game, Mayfield said he was comfortable with the team’s offensive performance thus far and was ready to start playing games for real.

"I know our guys are ready," he said. "They're itching to go."
