Baker Mayfield Takes A Shot At Browns Coaching Staff After Loss To Steelers
Baker Mayfield's 2021-22 season most likely came to a close Monday night in Pittsburgh where he was sacked nine times and pinned blame right on the heads of the Cleveland coaching staff. In his post-game press conference appearance, Mayfield was critical of the gameplan that left rookie tackle James Hudson exposed.
"When you've got TJ Watt over there and you're not giving our rookie tackle a whole lot of help, it's not going to be good," Mayfield told the media.
When asked by the media whether he was put in positions to succeed in 2021, Baker wasn't done with his criticism of the coaching staff.
"Do I believe I could play better? Absolutely," the fourth-year veteran said after the 26-14 loss. "Do I believe there's positions that we as an offense could've been put in that would've been better? Absolutely."
If Monday was his final game of the season, Baker Mayfield will finish with a starting record of 6-8 with 17 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. His completion percentage (60.5%) is now back down to where it was in 2019 when he threw 22 touchdowns and 21 interceptions. The Browns finished 6-10 that season.
And now all the attention for Browns fans turns to Stefanski vs. Mayfield and why he didn't get help for James Hudson on T.J. Watt. Was he trying to sabotage Mayfield? Is he just a moron with a headset? Why did Nick Chubb spend so much time on the sideline?
Then you'll have the Browns pundits who are trying to figure out what Baker was doing on this throw and with his spin moves:
You can blame Stefanski quite a bit, but this is a quarterback who is seeing ghosts and thinks he's about to be hit the second the ball touches his hands. This isn't coming from some nobody Internet blogger. Take it from Peyton Manning's face during this play.
