Antonio Brown Throws Tom Brady, Teammates Under The Bus In Latest Interview
Since Week 17's incident at MetLife Stadium, several narratives have been presented between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Antonio Brown to make sense of the receiver's breakdown.
A new interview released Friday features Brown presenting more of his side of the story.
In his rant, Brown threw teammates under the bus, voiced frustrations over his contract with Tampa Bay, and questioned quarterback / long-time friend Tom Brady's loyalty.
"If Tom Brady's my boy, why am I playing for an earnest salary?" Brown asked, appearing on the Full Send Podcast. Brown disclosed his viewpoint by bringing teammate Rob Gronkowski into the mix and accusing his former QB of nepotism.
Brown said, "Gronkowski's his boy, right? How much does he get paid?"
One of the angles presented by the Bucs in the AB saga detailed Brown's multiple requests to fully guarantee his contract for the remainder of the year, which general manager Jason Licht did not approve.
The team's claim prompted questions over Brown's urgency to lock in his money while managing a nagging ankle injury in recent weeks.
During the interview, Brown boldly ranked himself above teammates Mike Evans and Chris Godwin in his bid for more money. Brown's contract was terminated by the Bucs this week — signing to a one-year, $6.25 million agreement ($2 million signing bonus, $3.1 million guaranteed) in the offseason.
"Who's the best guy over there?" Brown repeatedly questioned. When one of the pundits called the Bucs offense a combination of receiving talent as a euphemism for Brown's true ranking, the player scoffed at the response.
Another claim by the Bucs coaching staff regarding the wideout's frustrations was his demand for more targets, despite coming off a near 10-week absence since injuring his ankle against the Eagles in Week 6. Brown reportedly asked Arians for more looks during the third quarter of the Jets contest before he refused to go back in.
On Wednesday, the receiver posted contentious material concerning Tom Brady's training guru, Alex Guerrero. Brady was graceful in his response to the screenshots but now faces the media once again to address a direct target by Brown.
