49ers Rumored To Have Narrowed Selection To Two Quarterbacks

In case you haven't heard, draft week is officially underway for the NFL. Things are set to get started at 8 p.m. ET (7 p.m. CT) on Thursday, Apr. 29, and that means the rumor mills are swirling as we inch closer to the opening round.

When the San Francisco 49ers traded up to the No. 3 pick in late March, people just assumed they'd select Alabama quarterback Mac Jones. Other quarterbacks have entered the mix in recent weeks however, and now everyone wonders who it will be.

Those hoping that it's Ohio State signal-caller Justin Fields might have to temper their expectations though. According to league insider Ian Rapoport with the NFL Network, Kyle Shanahan is down to two prospects: Jones and North Dakota State's Trey Lance.

Rapoport tweeted that news out late on Sunday evening.

As of right now, the FanDuel Sportsbook has updated its odds for the No. 3 pick. Jones is the heavy favorite at minus-250, and Lance is sitting at plus-195. Fields is a distant third at plus-650.

Does that make the reports definitive? Absolutely not, as the 49ers have been known to keep information close to the chest. In fact, there were late reports once draft week hit in 2019 that said San Francisco preferred Quinnen Williams to Nick Bosa.

Those reports were false.

It happens this time of year. Draft season is lying season, and things only get worse the closer we get to draft day. The information isn't necessarily false, but it should always be taken with a grain of salt.

It's about to be a wild week, folks. Buckle up.
