Texas, Oklahoma Officially Requesting Admission To SEC On Tuesday

With each passing day, we seem to get one step closer to Texas and Oklahoma joining the SEC. On Monday, the Big 12 was notified that both schools would opt not to renew their grant of media rights, setting the stage for a departure.

Now, reports say that the Sooners and Longhorns will formally request admission into the Southeastern Conference on Tuesday. That report comes directly from Jason Whitely with WFAA in Dallas.

According to a report from Dawg Sports, the Chairman of the University of Texas Board of Regents, Kevin Eltife, says that Texas and Oklahoma are looking at 2022 as the target date, but 2023 is also an option.

“Texas and Oklahoma are aiming to enter the league in 2022, with 2023 as a backup plan.”

We'll see where the next step takes us. While some assume the SEC vote for admission will be 13-1 with Texas A&M being the only nay, don't be surprised if it ends up being unanimous so that the new super-conference can present a unified front.

The Aggies can't do much of anything about it anyways.
