Ric Flair Takes A Personal Shot At Kirby Smart Hours Before Dawgs-Wolverines
In one of the great moments of the 2021 bowl season, Ric Flair came out swinging Friday morning at none other than Georgia head coach Kirby Smart as the Dawgs get ready to face the Michigan Wolverines in the Orange Bowl with a spot in the national championship on the line.
Ric, who doesn't make a habit of making things personal on social media, announced he'd be supporting Michigan in today's game. That isn't a shock. Ric's been around the Michigan program for years. He was there when Jim Harbaugh held his Signing With The Stars events and has worn a Michigan jersey in the past.
The real shock Friday morning was how Ric announced his Orange Bowl pick.
"Sorry Kirby Smart! You should have shook my hand on the sidelines when I was standing next to Herschel Walker in Athens," Flair announced.
"Today, It's All BLUE! @CoachJim4UM Has Been Shaking My Hand Since 1989! GO BLUE!"
That's some personal business right there. It's one thing to just say Ric's riding with Jim Harbaugh because they've been friends for a long time. It's another for Ric to pinpoint the exact reason, even if you think it's petty, why he won't support Georgia.
Keep in mind, Ric, who lives in Atlanta, has spent time around the Georgia program over the years. Ric and legendary Dawgs running back Todd Gurley have used the same management team over the years and are very friendly. Dawgs kicker Rodriqo Blankenship attended Ric's 70th birthday party and presented him with a Dawgs jersey.
What we saw out of Ric this morning was 100% a legit personal shot at Kirby. If you were looking for bulletin board material hours before today's huge game, Ric just dialed it up.
It's time to get it on!
