RGIII Picks SEC Quarterback To Win The Heisman Trophy
Quarterback turned college football analyst, Robert Griffin III, is wasting little time shifting from hot reads to hot takes. RGIII looks comfortable in his new role away from the field, and he recently made a bold prediction that Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral would not only hoist the Heisman Trophy this season, but also that he would guide the Rebels to the College Football Playoff.
“I’m going with the most fun to watch gunslinger in all of college football, Matt Corral,” said Griffin via ESPN. “I think he’s going to fix his turnover issues and he’s going to go out and lead Ole Miss to being a serious contender in the College Football Playoff.”
Griffin's opinion should hold some weight. In 2011, he not only passed for nearly 4,300 yards and guided the Bears to a 10-3 record, but he then became the first Baylor Bear to win the Heisman.
Heisman hopeful Corral is certainly worthy of discussion in 2021. Under the tutelage of offensive guru Lane Kiffin, he accumulated 29 touchdowns and 3,337 passing yards for the Rebels last fall. Far from a one-trick pony, Corral added another 506 yards and four touchdowns on the ground.
Though it's not hard to envision Corral taking home some post-season hardware, the idea of the quarterback steering Ole Miss towards the College Football Playoff is a little more far fetched. The Rebels finished the 2020 campaign 5-5 and at last check, perennial power Alabama and cousins LSU and Auburn were still in the loaded SEC.
