Report: Jim Harbaugh Returning To Michigan For 2022 Season

Despite interviewing with the Minnesota Vikings on Wednesday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Jim Harbaugh informed Michigan he will be returning to the program for the 2022 season.

"Jim Harbaugh told Warde Manuel that this would not be a re-occurring issue and he would stay at Michigan as long as it wants him," Schefter reports.

For the past few days, Harbaugh's status with the program has been unknown and it was reported he was preparing to depart the Wolverines.

Harbaugh officially interviewed in person with the Vikings on Wednesday and Pro Football Talk reported he wanted the job. Keep in mind, Minnesota hadn't offered him the job and the Vikings have several other candidates to consider for the vacancy.

For now, it seems Harbaugh will stay in Ann Arbor, with Schefter reporting that Michigan was “elated” to get the head coach's decision.

Harbaugh's résumé seems to speak volumes.

Harbaugh played 14 years as a quarterback in the NFL and returned in 2002 as the quarterbacks coach for the Oakland Raiders. He went back to the college ranks and returned in 2011 as he signed a five-year deal as head coach of the San Francisco 49ers, where he led the team to the NFC Championship game in each of his first three seasons after the franchise missed the playoffs for eight straight seasons. He coached the 49ers from 2011 to 2014 until joining Michigan in 2015.
