Report: Jim Harbaugh Planning To Take Vikings Job, Has Told Several People He's Leaving Michigan
Jim Harbaugh is reportedly set to make a splash on National Signing Day on Wednesday -- one that will cause a seismic shift in college football.
And it won't be the news of any four or five-star prospect heading to Ann Arbor.
It'll instead be Harbaugh leaving Michigan for a return to the NFL. Per a report from On3 Sports' Chris Balas, Harbaugh has already said his goodbyes to several people in the Wolverines' program. Harbaugh is set to interview in-person with the Vikings Wednesday, in a meeting that is a "formality," according to the report.
“Everyone is wondering if they’ll have a job much longer,” a source in the program told Balas. “The team will be notified of everything on Thursday.”
Harbaugh, 58, has been rumored for a return to professional football the past few seasons. After going 2-4 in the COVID-19 shortened 2020 campaign, Michigan reached its zenith under Harbaugh in 2021.
The Wolverines finished 12-2, defeated rival Ohio State for the first time since 2011, won the Big Ten championship for the first time since 2004 and reached the College Football Playoff. The Wolverines were defeated by eventual National Champion Georgia, 34-11.
Harbaugh's NFL résumé speaks for itself. A 44-19-1 record, three NFC Championship Game appearances and a Super Bowl appearance in 2013.
Harbaugh is looking to become the 10th head coach in the history of the Vikings, succeeding Mike Zimmer.
