Portland State Football Coach Hit With Massive Bar Bill After Offering To Buy Beer For Fans
Portland State football coach Bruce Barnum offered to buy beer for fans if they showed up at his team's game Saturday against Western Oregon and let's just say things got a little out of hand for Bruce's wallet.
The final numbers:
• 786 Deschutes Fresh Squeezed IPAs
• 1,260 Coors Lights
• 2,064 total beers served
• Grand total: $14,448
"I was thinking...pandemic...college football hasn't been around, let's kinda get a little crew and have beers on top of the roof like Shawshank Redemption, but this blew up a little too much," Barnum said about his marketing stunt.
And he's not backing down from that tab after a 21-7 win over Western Oregon.
"You're looking at him," Barnum, who makes around $200k a year, said when asked again who would pay this bill. As for the future of Barny's Beer Garden, the coach says that school administrators loved the marketing stunt and now the hope is that a few fans had a good time and will want to recreate that atmosphere at a future game.
Next up for Bruce: Montana State, No. 13 in the FCS, comes to town this Saturday for an afternoon game. Saturday's forecast is calling for 81 and bright sunshine in Hillsboro. In other words, a beautiful day to go drink and watch one of the most interesting college football coaches do his thing.
