Police Make Arrest In Shooting Death Of Utah Cornerback
A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of Utah football player Aaron Lowe, Salt Lake City police announced Sunday.
Buk M. Buk has been charged with aggravated murder, attempted murder and felony discharge of a firearm.
The 21-year-old cornerback was shot and killed at a house party in Salt Lake City in the early hours on Sept. 26
A 20-year-old woman also shot in the incident remains in critical condition after undergoing extensive surgery, according to the Sunday statement.
Police said Buk was arrested in Draper, Utah, early Sunday and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for the alleged murder.
Salt Lake City Police Chief Mike Brown said in a Sunday statement that the investigation leading to the arrest was a collective effort.
“In a time of need, we turned to our community. We asked people to come forward and to share the information they had. Because of those tips and the unrelenting pursuit of justice from our homicide detectives, we have arrested the person accused of murdering Aaron Lowe," Brown said. "So many lives have been impacted from this senseless shooting..."
Brown said on Sept. 26 he was deeply saddened to learn of Lowe's death.
“This talented young man touched the lives of so many here in Salt Lake City and in Texas," Brown said in a statement. "The Salt Lake City Police Department grieves with and offers our condolences to the Lowe family and the University of Utah community..."
Police said the investigation is still active and ongoing, and detectives continue to work every aspect of the case.
"Detectives continue to work every aspect of the case and will not stop until it is resolved in court," SLC Police Department tweeted.
