OutKick The Tailgate: Nick Saban Calls Out 'Self-Absorbed' Alabama Fans

Alabama head coach Nick Saban said earlier this week that he had little patience for fans who are only happy with large margins of victory, and OutKick the Tailgate's Jill Savage, Chad Withrow, and Jonathan Hutton discussed ahead of the Iron Bowl.

"I'll tell you what, I'm glad you go to the game that way because I don't ever go to the game that way," Saban said when asked about expectations for every game to be a blowout. "I have too much respect for the other team, been in too many games, whether we won when we weren't expected to win or the other team beat us."

Saban's passionate rant came during his weekly radio show at Baumhower's Victory Grille.

"I mean, c'mon. Give me a break," he said. "This is not professional football. These guys aren't getting paid to play here. They're representing you all. You should be proud and happy to support them and appreciate what they do and have some gratitude. And nobody feels worse than they do when they lose. Nobody. So for all you self-absorbed folks out there that can't look past your own self, aight, to appreciate what other people are doing."

Withrow said it was offputting to see Saban going off on the fans and to see the fans applauding the whole time.

"This is a byproduct of all the success at Alabama — you get spoiled," Withrow said. "Alabama fans aren't OK with just winning at this point."

Hutton said it is still a little ridiculous that fans have it so good that they are able to complain able the way the team is winning.

Alabama (10-1) did not lose, but the Crimson Tide dropped from No. 2 to No. 3 in the most recent College Football Playoff rankings released Tuesday night.

The defending national champions escaped games against the Florida Gators, LSU Tigers and Arkansas Razorbacks with one-score wins.
