OutKick The Tailgate: Is LSU Or Texas A&M The SEC's Biggest Disappointment?

LSU and Texas A&M entered the 2021 campaign with high expectations, rightfully so when you look at recent history. LSU was on top of the college football world just two years ago as National Champions, while A&M finished 9-1 in 2020, just outside of the College Football Playoff.

Both teams have been big disappointments in 2021, with both sitting at 3-2 and unranked in the AP Poll. Tigers head coach Ed Orgeron is now just 8-7 since 2019 and is on the hot seat after losses to UCLA and Auburn. Aggies head coach Jimbo Fisher envisioned his team as a championship contender, but back-to-back losses to No. 13 Arkansas and Mississippi State have dashed their hopes. So, which one is the bigger disappointment?

According to OutKick founder Clay Travis, it's 100% A&M. Travis appeared on OutKick The Tailgate this morning live from College Station and said it's because the Aggies' expectations were much higher this season.

"Texas A&M came in with National Championship aspirations, with College Football Playoff aspirations and I mean, they barely missed the Playoff last year and right now in my OutKick SEC power rankings, I have A&M as the 10th best team in the conference," Travis said. "So, if you are you know, kinda adjusting and guiding based on expectation for this year, I don't think there's any doubt.

"Look, I mean I think LSU fans were cautiously optimistic and I think they were frustrated with the loss to start the season to UCLA, and I think they were upset that they lost to Auburn, but I don't think a lot of LSU fans are super surprised."

Most of A&M's problems have stemmed from not being able to score, which began after quarterback Haynes King picked up a leg injury and had to have surgery. Zach Calzada has since taken over under center, but the results have been muddy. The Aggies are 83rd in the nation in total offense and have been reliant on running back Isaiah Spiller to move the ball. Spiller has just 68 touches but has turned it into 445 yards on 6.5 yards per carry. Calzada, meanwhile, is completing only 53.9% of his passes with four interceptions.
