NIL Sees No. 1 Prospect Reclassify, Enroll Early At Ohio State

Top quartertback prospect Quinn Ewers has indeed decided to reclassify and begin life with Ohio State earlier than expected, and mostly, cash in on some of that NIL money.

As relayed by 24/7 Sports, "Ewers will be a member of the Scarlet and Gray this fall camp, which begins on Tuesday." In fact, Ewers is already on campus, 24/7 Sports added.

As OutKick's Meg Turner relayed last week, Ewers was set to enter his senior season at Southlake Carroll — a public high school in the suburbs of Dallas. But Texas laws forbid high school players from profiting off their name, image and likeness. 

That made Ewers reconsider his status as a high school athlete.

“I don’t really know, I don’t have a final decision made quite yet,” Ewers said in a phone interview with Yahoo Sports last week. “I’m leaning toward leaving and going up to Ohio, just so I don’t have to deal with stuff and can get comfortable with Ohio and Columbus and start to learn.”

Ewers is 6-foot-3 and 260 pounds and has been ranked as the No. 1 quarterback propect by every recruiting service and website.

"He was recruited by every major program in the country after he was the highest ranked quarterback prospect since Vince Young," 24/7 Sports reported. "In two seasons as the starter at Southlake Carroll High School, Ewers threw for 6,445 yards and 73 touchdowns, and that includes missing time last year with an injury."

Initial reports stated that "Ewers and his parents made it clear that their preference is he stays in high school and is allowed to sign the deals, but UIL deputy director Jamey Harrison said that decision is out of his hands," Turner noted on OutKick last week.

“The legislation that passed in Texas prohibits these types of agreements,” Harrison told Yahoo Sports. “Given that those types of agreements are prohibited by state law, we could not be open to it.”

“We’re still sorting our way through all of this,” Harrison said. “High school associations are in the same place we are. We’ll still sorting through this.”

Clearly, though, the decision has been made and Ewers is startig his career with the Buckeyes and starting to find ways to profit off his status as a high-profile QB.
