Matt Corral Draws Interesting Pro Comparison
Matt Corral is widely considered one of the top passers in the SEC. He was one of only three players in the conference to average over 300 yards passing per game (333.7), and the other two, Mac Jones and Kyle Trask, are now gone.
Some view him as the top 2022 NFL quarterback prospect from the SEC with the only contender being Georgia's JT Daniels. If Corral can cut down on his conference-leading 14 interceptions, there's enough talent there to believe the Ole Miss standout has a bright future in the NFL.
Draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah of the NFL Network recently gave Corral quite the praise, saying he could be this year's version of former BYU quarterback Zach Wilson, who emerged as the No. 2 pick back in April.
That would be a significant climb for Corral, but it's not completely outside the realm of possibility. Like Jeremiah said, there's a lot to clean up with the turnovers, but the former four-star talent has the skill set to be a successful NFL quarterback.
When breaking down that skill set, Jeremiah had another comparison, which he views is more accurate on the field. That player in none other than Raiders quarterback Derek Carr, who has carved out a solid career in Las Vegas.
The comparisons aren't a stretch in the slightest. Is Carr one of the league's top players at his position? No, but he's a serviceable starter. Corral could be the same, especially if he continues to grow as a decision-maker.
