LSU To Require COVID Vaccination Proof From Fans 12 & Up
LSU announced Tuesday that it would require fans 12 & up to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours before entry into Tiger Stadium for football games this fall. Citing the Delta variant, the school said the policy will go into effect at the home opener on September 11 against McNeese State.
“As the flagship institution of the state of Louisiana, our foremost responsibility is to ensure the safety of our students, our supporters, and our community,” Tate said. “While we are aware of the diverse perspectives across the nation regarding masks and vaccinations, we must take all reasonable measures to protect our campus and community, not only on gamedays, but long after guests have left Tiger Stadium. The current threat to our lives, our health, and to our medical systems due to COVID-19 is overburdening our hospitals, and we must do our part to stop the spread.”
Fans will be asked to show a digital or hard copy of a negative COVID test or provide a vaccination card, a photo of the vaccination card or "verified digital proof of vaccination."
With a capacity of 102,321, Tiger Stadium wasn't exactly the easiest stadium in college football to get into before COVID. Now imagine stadium staff checking phones for vaccination cards. One could easily see it turn into a Lollapalooza where the staff has no choice but to take your word for it that it's your vaccination card. Lollapalooza staff didn't check vaccination cards against a driver's license. Because it's impossible!
55,000 people move through TSA checkpoints at Atlanta-Hartsfield on its busiest travel days. Now imagine 75,000 fans trying to get into Tiger Stadium an hour before kickoff. We're talking a verification stage followed by ticket takers and the security team with its metal detectors.
