Kirk Herbstreit's Son, Jake, No Longer a Part of The Clemson Football Program

Kirk Herbstreit had an interesting dilemma during the College Football Playoff last January when the Ohio State Buckeyes took on the Clemson Tigers.

On one hand, he was once the star quarterback at Ohio State. On the other hand, his twin sons, Jake and Tye Herbstreit, were both preferred walk-ons for the Tigers.

So which team did Herbstreit pull for? I honestly don't know, which is a testament to his professionalism. Regardless of his preference though, the Buckeyes trounced Clemson in the semifinals and then got trounced themselves by Alabama in the national title game.

Now only months later, there will be one less Herbstreit roaming the practice sidelines for the Tigers.

On Monday, Matt Connolly with ClemsonSports.com broke the news that safety Jake Herbstreit was no longer with the program. So is Jake hitting the transfer portal like everyone else? Apparently not. According to the report, he has chosen to step away from football to pursue other interests.

Perhaps the ESPN analyst's son could explore sports journalism. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree, right? Plus, he has spent some time with the Clemson football creative media group.

In any case, at least Kirk has one less reason to root against his alma mater in any future first-round matchups between the two programs. Perspective.
