Eddie George Rounds Out A Pretty Impressive Staff At Tennessee State

Eddie George is clearly taking this coaching business seriously. George, a former star running back with the Tennessee Titans, is entering his first season as head coach at Tennessee State. And he is surrounding himself with some assistants whose names you likely know.

For starters, former Cleveland Browns head coach Hue Jackson will serve as offensive coordinator. While Jackson had a forgettable run with the Browns, he was widely respected as an OC with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Meanwhile, Brandon Fisher will be the defensive coordinator. Fisher is the son of Jeff Fisher, George's coach with the Titans. Jeff Fisher is serving in advisory role with the program.

George played college ball at Ohio State, and he brought in some fellow former Buckeyes as well. Pepe Pearson will be Tennessee State's running back coach, and Richard McNutt will be the defensive backs coach.

“I couldn’t be more excited to get started coaching our student-athletes with this staff of exceptional men,” George said. “These men are all great football coaches, but they are even better men. We really took our time to make sure each one of these coaches was the right fit for our program.

“Make no mistake, we expect to win football games at Tennessee State University, but our ultimate goal is to prepare our current and future student-athletes for life. I’m looking forward to the impact our coaches will have on Tennessee State University and the Nashville community.”

George, 47, played for the Titans from 1996-2003. He made the Pro Bowl four times and finished his career with 10,441 rushing yards, 68 touchdowns, 2,227 receiving yards and 10 scores. His No. 27 has been retired by the franchise.
