EA Sports Announces Return To College Football

EA Sports is relaunching its college football series under a new name: EA Sports College Football.

Although it isn't known when — or in what format — the game will be released, EA Sports announced the game will be returning for the first time since NCAA Football 14 was released in 2013.

Back in 2013, Cam Weber, general manager of American Football for EA Sports, announced EA would be ending its college football series.

"We have been stuck in the middle of a dispute between the NCAA and student-athletes who seek compensation for playing college football," Weber said. "Just like companies that broadcast college games and those that provide equipment and apparel, we follow rules that are set by the NCAA – but those rules are being challenged by some student-athletes."

EA Sports said it would continue to develop and publish college football games but that such games would no longer include the NCAA names and marks.

On Tuesday however, Weber said EA Sports has heard from millions of passionate fans requesting the return of college football video games.

“We love the energy, tradition and pageantry of college football and I am beyond thrilled to say we are back in development," Weber said. "We have a lot of really exciting work ahead of us, and a great team that is eager to bring a new game to players in the next couple of years.”

EA Sports also announced it has partnered with CLC, a leading collegiate trademark licensing company, which allows EA Sports to be the exclusive developer of simulation college football video game experiences.

The news release states the launch timing is still to come as the project progresses in the years ahead.
