Deion Sanders Hires Former Teammate as Co-OC at Jackson State

Deion Sanders announced today that Jason Phillips will be the co-offensive coordinator at Jackson State. Phillips has been coaching for two decades and spent the last two years as Utah State's passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach. He has also been an assistant at Oregon State and Kansas.

“I’m thrilled to welcome Jason to Jackson State,” Sanders said, via HBCUsports.com. “Jason is a great teacher of the game and has an impeccable resume and will help our young men develop on the field of play and in the classroom.”

Phillips -- a former NFL wide receiver -- and Sanders played together on the Atlanta Falcons for three seasons in the early 90s. Presumably, they went up against each other in practice.

Sanders has already injected a lot of excitement into the Jackson State program. He recently landed Auburn defensive tackle transfer Coynis Miller Jr.  He also flipped four-star cornerback De'Jahn Warren from Georgia, and flipped his son, four-star QB Shedeur Sanders, away from FAU.
