Dan Mullen Expects Vols' Offense To Be A Tough Matchup Under Heupel
Florida head football coach Dan Mullen praised Tennessee’s strong potential offense during SEC media days. The compliment was really aimed at new head coach Josh Heupel, who Mullen said always prepares his teams well on offense.
“I know, offensively, they’re always a challenge. They’re an exciting team to watch, have a great system, put up some big numbers, so it will be a great challenge to finally get the opportunity to go against .”
Mullen also said that although he’s never faced Heupel, he’s excited for the September 25 meeting in Gainesville.
“I know been successful everywhere he’s been throughout his career, and so, I think he’ll bring a lot of excitement.”
Coach Heupel has worked his way up through the coaching ranks since 2004, with stops at Oklahoma, Utah State, and Missouri. He was the quarterbacks coach at Oklahoma in 2008 when Sam Bradford won the Heisman trophy. In 2018, Heupel took over at UCF for Scott Frost, fresh off a National Championship. He led the Knights to a 28-8 overall record before accepting the Tennessee job.
The 2021 Southeastern Conference football media days are taking place July 19-22 at the Hyatt Regency Birmingham-Wynfrey Hotel in Hoover, Alabama.
