Cornell Wheeler Transferring From Michigan To Big 12 School

Cornell Wheeler wasn't in Ann Arbor long. The linebacker was part of Michigan's 2020 recruiting class, but he's now moving on after only one season as a Wolverine. He entered the transfer portal during the offseason, and we now have a landing spot for the former three-star prospect.

On Monday, Wheeler announced that he will be taking his talents to Kansas. This is a big get for the Jayhawks as they try to move past the Les Miles era and try to become more relevant in the Big 12.

Wheeler was rated the nation's No. 471 overall prospect, No. 22 inside linebacker and No. 15 player from the state of Michigan, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. Coming out of West Bloomfield High School, he had offers from other programs such as Kentucky, Missouri, Nebraska and Iowa State.

The move might come as a shock to some, considering Wheeler's former high school coach, Ron Bellamy, had recently joined the Wolverines staff. But according to Isaiah Hole with Wolverines Wire, the arrival of new defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald and his new scheme has a lot of defensive players looking to transfer elsewhere.

Don't be surprised if Wheeler makes an early impact for his new squad.
