Coach Prime at FSU? Rich Eisen Thinks So

NFL Network host Rich Eisen thinks that Deion Sanders should get the call for the Florida State head coaching gig should it become available.

Eisen's suggestion comes as FSU head coach Mike Norvell's seat gets hotter by the day after the Seminoles' 0-2 start and 20-17 loss to FCS team Jacksonville State on Saturday.

Sanders, 54, is the head coach of Jackson State, a position he's held since 2020. Sanders is 6-3 in nine games as coach, 2-0 this season. Sanders was a standout at FSU, a two-time unanimous All-American in 1987 and 1988 and had his No. 2 jersey retired by the school.

Eisen has worked with Sanders before at the NFL Network and is a long time friend of "Coach Prime." Sanders might have only the nine games under his belt, but nobody can say he doesn't know FSU and how to win at FSU.

Sanders' impact would stretch far beyond the X's and O's and be more about setting the tone for a new culture in Tallahassee. A culture that has been damaged in the last five years.

Perhaps the biggest selling point for Sanders would be in the recruiting department. Sanders' infectious energy and charisma would no doubt be something that would be inviting to recruits, especially with the indoctrination of name, image and likeness (NIL).

Norvell is currently in year two of a six-year, $26.5 million deal he signed in 2019. If fired, FSU will owe Norvell 85% of the remaining money left on the deal. FSU is also paying $290,000 a month to former head coach Willie Taggart for another three seasons.

Given the financial situation, Sanders to FSU seems like a long shot. But boy, would it be fun to watch.
