Clear Signal There Are Too Many Bowl Games: There Is Now A Jimmy Kimmel Bowl

With the College Football Playoff expansion on the horizon, people now worry about the future of normal bowl games. After years of being a staple of college football, several bowls, including a few prominent ones, have diminished in prominence.

And you know what, maybe a few of them need to get axed.

My first vote goes to the latest addition of bowl games, which was announced on Wednesday. What is the name of this bowl? None other than the Jimmy Kimmel LA Bowl, which is now set to be played Dec. 18 on ABC. Included will be the No. 1 selection for the Mountain West facing off against the Pac-12's No. 5 selection.

No, I am not joking. And to be honest, I wouldn't have believed me either.

Like, what are we doing here?

We need to save bowl games, and this is college football's big move? Are they hurting for bowl sponsors? I guess my ego could handle the Clint Lamb Birmingham Bowl, but I demand that it include Rutgers and Kansas facing off every year with damn near winless records.

Kimmel landed the partnership after signing a multi-year deal with SoFi Stadium, home of the Rams and Chargers. In that deal, the host was given official naming rights, according to Yahoo Sports, and Kimmel must've thought, "Hey, this is a great way to stroke my ego and make headlines."

See, this is what happens when you start throwing absurd ideas out there like a 12-team playoff. Once you've crossed that threshold, there are no more rules. It's the Wild Wild West out here.
