Big 12 Moves To Third Stage Of Grief: Bargaining With OU, Texas

The Big 12 wants to make it work with Oklahoma and Texas. In other news, water is wet and the sky is blue. All of those statements are obvious, but what isn't so obvious is whether those two schools would be willing to stick around.

Unsurprisingly, the Big 12 doesn't want to be jerked around either. According to a tweet from Pete Thamel with Yahoo Sports on Sunday night, the faltering conference has a message for the Longhorns and Sooners: if you're done, say you're done and don't waste our time.

When I was just a young pup in college, I dated a girl for over a year and a half. By the end of my sophomore year, I knew I was done. It was about to be summer, and I decided it was time to let her go.

She was distraught and somehow convinced me to wait until we had some time apart over the summer to think things over (like that was going to help). I foolishly agreed, even though I knew in my heart I was done.

Long story short, the breakup finally came, and it ended up being worse than if I had just pulled the band-aid off from the get-go. I knew I was done, and there was no point in leading her on. I learned a valuable lesson that day. I didn't want to hurt her, but I ended up hurting her more by prolonging the breakup.

Texas and Oklahoma should learn from my lesson.

At this point, all signs indicate that the two programs will jump to the SEC. Sure, more revenue shares could be persuasive, but will it be enough to prevent them from joining a super conference that would change the college football landscape forever? Probably not.

If they know the breakup is coming, OU and UT shouldn't waste the Big 12's time -- or ours.

And a word of advice for the Big 12: don't be so desperate. We are way beyond the begging stage, and it's just a bad look. Make your pitch and let them decide. At this point, it's really all you can do.
