Bama Football Injuries: Tide Still Has 3 Starters Questionable for SEC Title Game Vs. Georgia
No. 3 Alabama could be without leading rusher Brian Robinson Jr., starting center Darrian Dalcourt and starting cornerback Jalyn Armour-Davis for the SEC Championship Game Saturday (3 p.m. central, CBS) against No. 1 Georgia in Atlanta.
Robinson (lower pulled muscle) and Dalcourt (ankle) left the Crimson Tide's win at Auburn Saturday and did not return, and Armour-Davis (hip) did not play. All three have been limited at practices this week. The Tide (11-1, 7-1) is a touchdown underdog to the Bulldogs (12-0, 8-0).
Robinson was injured on a 37-yard run in the fourth quarter that set up a field goal to get the Tide within 10-3 before tying it 10-10 and winning it in four overtimes, 24-22.
"We're doing some things with him today in practice and see how he responds," Alabama coach Nick Saban said on a teleconference Thursday. "So it's going to be day to day. We'll just have to see how it goes."
Robinson, a senior from Tuscaloosa, is third in the SEC in rushing with 1,016 yards on 207 carries and 14 touchdowns. He gained 71 yards on 16 carries at Auburn and caught three passes for 29 yards. If he can't play, he'll likely be replaced by sophomore Trey Sanders, who has 248 yards rushing on 50 carries this season with two touchdowns. He rushed 10 times for 23 yards and caught two passes for 12.
"Pretty much the same situation that B. Rob's in," Saban said of Dalcourt, a junior. "He's been able to practice on a limited basis. We'll see what he can do today, how he responds to it. And it's going to be a day-to-day situation as well."
Dalcourt did not play in the second half at Auburn as Saban juggled the offensive line.
Armour-Davis will not play unless he can return to full speed as he is a cornerback, Saban said.
"But we're still going to sort of look at him on a day-to-day basis, too, and see how he progresses," he said.
Freshman wide receiver/punt returner JoJo Earle is also questionable with a leg injury.
"JoJo is making progress," Saban said. "I don't think enough to be able to play in the game at this point, but probably will be back sometime shortly."
Earle has returned 14 punts for 95 yards and has caught 12 passes for 148 yards in 10 games.
