Alvin Kamara Excited To See What Happens On Rocky Top

Alvin Kamara's road to the NFL started at the University of Alabama, took a detour to a junior college before finding a home at Tennessee, where the running back started to perfect his craft.

CBS Sports reports Kamara became a regional household name during his time on Rocky Top — the running back made his mark and set a couple of program records during his time with the program. In 24 games, he racked up 1,977 yards from scrimmage and 23 total touchdowns.

His 144 rushing yards in his first game as a Vol set the school record for most rushing yards in a debut, and his 312 all-purpose yards against Texas A&M in 2016 set a program record as well, according to Tennessee's official website.

Although he departed the program ahead of graduation — and was drafted by Sean Payton and the Saints in 2017 — he continues to stay in touch with his people on Rocky Top.

Kamara made an impact in Knoxville and told CBS Sports he periodically makes trips back to his old college stomping grounds, including a recent trip back for the spring game to meet new head coach Josh Heupel.

"I like 'Heup.' He's got good energy," Kamara told CBS Sports. "I think he wants to come in and understand the players, understand the culture here at Tennessee and not try to create a new one. I think he wants to get in line with what's been going on and try to fill the void with what the need has been. Me and him talked for a while and he has a lot of great ideas. The whole staff is great, I'm sure they gel together well."

The four-time Pro Bowler said he's excited to see what the team does this fall.
