Alabama QB Bryce Young Regains Lead In Heisman Betting Odds
Heading into conference championship weekend, there appears to be no frontrunner for the Heisman Trophy.
Many names have emerged, but two stick out: Ohio State redshirt freshman quarterback CJ Stroud and Alabama sophomore quarterback Bryce Young. The two have flip flopped as the betting favorite in the last several weeks, with Stroud taking the lead after his six-touchdown performance in a 56-7 win over Michigan State on Nov. 20.
Then a snowy November day at the Big House changed everything. Aided by five touchdowns from senior running back Hassan Haskins, Michigan defeated Ohio State 42-27, and the Buckeyes' Playoff hopes came to an end. Perhaps Stroud's Heisman chances ended as well, as Young is now the betting favorite, per FanDuel Sportsbook.
Young is now -220 to win it, while Stroud is +450. Young will have one more opportunity to beef up his résumé, a showdown with No. 1 Georgia in the SEC Championship Game on Saturday. Stroud, meanwhile, will be at home watching No. 2 Michigan and another Heisman Trophy candidate, senior edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson, take on No. 13 Iowa in the Big Ten Championship Game.
Should Young and Alabama fall and Michigan take care of business, Hutchinson may gain a lot of steam for the Heisman. Hutchinson put the nation on notice against the Buckeyes, recording three sacks to bring his season total to 13. He garnered 15 pressures, the most ever recorded in a single game by Pro Football Focus.
Hutchinson is the next highest betting favorite at +1600, still well below where Young and Stroud are. Should he win, he'll be the first defensive player to the win the Heisman since Charles Woodson in 1997. Woodson, ironically enough, was a Wolverine, just like Hutchinson.
