Oregon State DL Isaac Hodgins Ends Practice With A Midfield Proposal To His Girlfriend

Oregon State's fourth-year junior Isaac Hodgins ended a memorable Beaver spring practice Saturday by proposing to his girlfriend, Taylor Lawson, at Reser Stadium.

Head coach Jonathan Smith had no issues whatsoever with the idea, and even was all for it after Hodgins told him of his eventual intentions.

“I was nervous from 5 a.m., the moment I woke up. I was nervous about the spring game and about this,” Hodgins said.

“Compounded nervousness.”

A lot of the scrimmage from Saturday was not performed per normal after the team had widespread injuries and those out due to the COVID-19 protocol.

That would end up being good news for Hodgins, who didn't do a ton in the scrimmage and was more focused on how he was going to deliver his proposal in front of 3,000 fans.

Hodgins spoke to his head coach about a week ago with his proposal plan all in place and ready to go.

Smith was all in. Lawson, who is a very good gymnast at Stanford, told everyone that she had no idea when asked to join the team on the field after the scrimmage what was going on.

She would soon find out.

“I’m going onto the field for just pictures? OK, cool,” Lawson said.

Lawson will have to laugh when she tells the story someday, as there's not just a few - but a TON of pics of the happy couple after Hodgins asked the question a lot of young ladies would someday like to hear.

Hodgins wasn't the bravado type when it came to announcing his marriage intentions.

"A lot of dudes were surprised,” Hodgins said. “Even in the locker room, they overheard me saying I was gonna propose and they’re like ‘You’ve got a girlfriend?’”

And now he's got a fiance.
