Olympics Halftime Show Features Robot Programmed To Ball You Up

During the halftime festivities of the Team U.S.A. vs. Team France basketball matchup on Sunday, the event coordinators unveiled a next-gen robot capable of breaking circuits and ankles.

The robot is known as CUE3, a creation of the CUE Development Team, which currently holds the Guinness World Record for "most consecutive basketball free throws by a humanoid robot (assisted)" with a total of 2,020 shots.

The footage appears to show a love child of the AND1 mascot and a Sentinel from X-Men: Days of Future Past, and the crowd goes absolutely wild as a result. The robot put on a better performance than Team U.S.A., who ultimately lost to France, 83-76.

Beginning with a free throw, progressing to a three-pointer and ending on a shot made all the way from half-court, the 3-3 shooting display stunned more spectators than ED-209.

While the start-up of the robot's mechanics required a slight delay between makes, the incredible showcasing of technological advancement garnered a familiar reception: awe from some, anxiety from most.

As the A.I. takeover looms, leagues with entirely robotic athletes may not only become the future of basketball, but the future of sports.

It won't be long before the Boston Celtics turn into the Boston Dynamics, and fans of A.I. start to debate between the humanoid and anthropoid versions.
