Kyrie Irving Takes The Night Off Against Philly, Says He 'Didn't Want To Play'

Brooklyn Nets' star Kyrie Irving decided he wasn't going to play in Thursday's matchup with the Philadelphia 76ers. Head coach Steve Nash said pre-game he had "no idea" why Irving wouldn't play, but now he has his answer. According to Brandon "Scoop B" Robinson, Kyrie Irving said:

"I just didn't want to play."

Yikes!

For some context, it's highly likely Kyrie is lashing out about yesterday's events at the Capitol. Regardless, he should probably give his first-year head coach some heads up as to why he can't make it to work.

Irving is known for acting impulsively, and he's shown his inability to mask his emotions. To be clear, there's nothing wrong with Kyrie, or anyone really, feeling uneasy about yesterday's events, but he still has a job to do, a job that pays him absurdly well.

Commissioner Adam Silver should fine Irving for sitting during the primetime matchup with the Sixers. There's a big difference between sitting for health reasons and simply not wanting to play. That's unacceptable, though at this point, expected from Kyrie Irving. The commissioner has to realize that his players can't sit out games every time they feel upset. That's just not how jobs work--for anyone.
