Kevin Durant Supports Irving: 'Who Am I To Get Upset At That?'

At nearly seven feet tall, Nets superstar Kevin Durant towers over teammate Kyrie Irving, generously listed at 6'2. But as it relates to Irving's much-talked about decision to refrain from being vaccinated, Durant is standing with Irving, not above him.

"I can't be too mad at somebody making a decision for themselves," Durant said after Thursday's preseason finale.

Durant, who along with Irving, joined Brooklyn prior to the 2019 season would like to see Irving with his Nets teammates, but he knows that's not possible because of the team's decision to banish Irving for remaining unvaccinated.

"Definitely want Kyrie to be around," said Durant "I wish none of this stuff would happen, but this is the situation that we are in. Kyrie made his decision on what he wanted to do and he chose to do what he wanted to do, and the team did the same."

Reiterating that he isn't upset with Irving over his personal choice regarding the vaccination, Durant told the media he would not involve himself with Irving's stance or the team's decision.

"What is being mad going to do? We are not going to change his mind, know what I'm saying? We'll let him figure out what he needs to do and the team figure out what they need to do."

With Brooklyn's season opener scheduled for Tuesday night, the possibility of the Irving-Nets stalemate ending seems unlikely, though Durant envisions both sides standing in agreement before long.

"I am still positive that things will work out the best for both parties."
