Clay Travis: Cavs Only Promoting More Failed Policies With Silly Mask Mandate
OutKick founder Clay Travis would like to know why the Cleveland Cavaliers are suddenly forcing paying customers to wear masks. Or more specifically, any fan age 2 or older.
"If you’re going to a Cleveland Cavaliers game — why would you? — all fans ages two and up —TWO! — have to wear masks now," Clay tweeted. "It’s simply amazing how many people in sports continue to embrace failed covid policies that don’t work at all."
Despite vaccine mandates for employees and taking all sorts of precautions, the NBA and its teams continue to experience a surge in positive COVID tests. Replacement players are being signed at a comical rate and games are continuing to be postponed, anyway.
Now, the Cavs have decided to get their fans involved.
"Given that we’re supposed to be in the analytics revolution in sports you’d think some of these sports executives would, you know, actually look at the covid data and stop implementing failed, nonsensical policies that serve no impact," Clay wrote. "But most continue to be sheep."
The mandate was actually implemented by Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, home of the Cavs. So it applies to all events in the arena.
"Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse will now require that all fans (ages 2 and over) attending events, including Cleveland Cavaliers and Cleveland Monsters games, wear a mask that covers both mouth and nose when inside the venue and in their seats unless actively eating or drinking," the mandate on the Cavs' website read.
As our Anthony Farris relayed, the Cavs are saying the mask mandate is only "temporary." They will not require proof of vaccination.
"Been to 5 games this year," @DonKenobiMusic tweeted in response to Clay. "Not a chance I’m going for the next month."
