Charles Barkley Goes After Heat G Tyler Herro: ‘You’re Playing Against Scrubs’

Heat guard Tyler Herro thinks very highly of himself. Maybe a little too highly, according to Charles Barkley.

In an interview with Bally Sports Sun’s Jeremy Taché on the Miami Mic’d Up podcast, Herro said that he should be in the discussion for the best young stars in the league. Herro compared himself to the Mavericks’ Luka Dončić, the Hawks’ Trae Young and the Grizzlies’ Ja Morant. Barkley disagrees with that.

“I’m a big Tyler Herro fan, but just because they got the same numbers, those guys have to carry a team every night, and first of all. Second issue is he’s playing against backups,” Barkley said. “When you’re coming off the bench, you’re playing against backups.

“So, no disrespect, Herro’s a nice little player, but when you are the man, first and foremost, and also, the pressure with going to be the man is not telling anybody, ‘Hey, Tyler, come off the bench, shoot it anytime you want to. You’re playing against scrubs on the second unit.'”

As Barkley pointed out on NBA on TNT, Herro comes off the bench for Miami. Kyle Lowry and Duncan Robinson start, but it’s Herro who has been the star of the backcourt.

Herro is averaging a career high 22.4 PPG with 6.0 RPG and 4.4 APG. Along with guard Jimmy Butler and center Bam Adebayo, Herro is a big reason for Miami’s 6-1 start to the season, the best record in the Eastern Conference.
