Tyler Rogers Throwing 'Stupid' Rising Slider That Looks Impossible To Hit

So I'm casually watching some of the double-header between the San Francisco Giants and Washington Nationals on Saturday night, and that's when it happens. Relief pitcher Tyler Rogers enters in the sixth inning for the Giants and proceeds to throw perhaps the wildest pitch I've ever seen.

Look, I don't claim to know a ton about baseball, but I was left completely dumbfounded by this. After seeing it the first time, I turned to a friend and asked if he knew what in the hell we just witnessed.

"That's his rising slider, and it's terrifying," my friend responded.

Yup, I'm sold. Really, he could've said, "I don't have a clue," and I still would've known something about it looked odd -- and lethal. For anyone who hasn't seen the pitch that's now going viral, check out this tweet from Rob Friedman.

Some of the fans in attendance had the right sort of reaction.

Can't really say I blame them for the reaction. Can you?

Rogers' slider isn't new. He's been doing this all season, which is why he's such an integral part of the team's bullpen. But I just haven't seen many Giants games. After seeing that one on Saturday night, I'll probably be watching a few more.

As impossible as the pitch might look to hit, batters have had some success against it. According to Yahoo Sports, opposing hitters are averaging .116 against it. Not great, but at least I know it's possible.
