Trey Mancini Expected To Compete In HR Derby

Baltimore Orioles slugger Trey Mancini has accepted an invitation from Major League Baseball to participate in the Home Run Derby.

The 29-year-old missed the entire 2020 season after being diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer, ESPN reports. He returned this season after undergoing surgery to treat the cancer.

Mancini is consistently among baseball's best in maximum exit velocity, ESPN reports. He has also fulfilled the promise of his breakout 2019 season, having slashed .260/.337/.446 this year with 14 home runs and 52 RBIs.

Mancini joins Los Angeles Angels' Shohei Ohtani and reigning champion New York Mets' Pete Alonso in the Derby, scheduled to take place July 12 at Coors Field.
