Trevor Bauer Linked To Padres, But Says He'll Let You Know
Trevor Bauer may be a loose cannon, but in the current free-agent market, the only cannon teams care about is his arm.
And that clearly works just fine.
So much so that Bauer is considered the top available pitcher. There will be no shortage of suitors, and according to veteran baseball writer Dan Federico, you can count the San Diego Padres among them.
Let's start with Bauer, who was fantastic for the Cincinnati Reds this past season, hurling his way to a 1.73 ERA in 73 innings.
At 29-years old, he's undoubtedly in line for a big payday.
Now for the Padres. Unlike some others who may have Bauer on the radar, they are on the way up, perhaps only a pitcher away from competing with the big guns. Unlike others, they also currently have one of Bauer's buddies in the rotation, Mike Clevinger. Clevinger and Bauer were once teammates with the Cleveland Indians.
Of course, Bauer being Bauer, he has already used his Twitter handle to playfully troll fans in different cities (including Houston), just to get the rumor mill churning. He also announced that he intends to break the news of where he'll actually sign next.
"There’s a ton of interest in the offseason around where players are going to go, but the vast majority of that traffic and attention goes to the beat reporters or the national writers or whoever is writing an article about speculation this and speculation that," he told Yahoo Sports. "If a player makes it to free agency and has put in the time, years and all the hard work, I feel like a player should capitalize on his moment."
So will Bauer head to the Padres?
Maybe. Guess we will have to wait hear from him.
