Shohei Ohtani ‘Not Offended’ By Jack Morris Comment

Los Angeles Angels pitcher and slugger Shohei Ohtani responded to questions over the outrage directed at Bally Sports Detroit analyst and Hall of Fame player Jack Morris over a moment of perceived racism.

While calling the Tigers-Angels contest on Tuesday, Morris used an Asian accent to answer a fellow commentator's question on how to stop Shohei Ohtani, which led to a prompt on-air apology from Morris.

When asked about the controversial moment from Morris, Ohtani reflected on the scene and gave a "no harm, no foul" answer. A translation of his response was made available before the postgame press, following the Angels' win over the Tigers, 3-1, on Wednesday:

"I did see the footage and I heard it on video, but personally I am not offended. I didn't take anything personally."

On Wednesday, the Bally Sports Detroit network announced it had indefinitely suspended Jack Morris following the outrage and accusations of racial insensitivity. Morris will undergo bias training as part of his reconciliation with Bally Sports Detroit.

Ohtani's cool response to Morris is a refreshing departure from the swift call for repercussions from far too many athletes. Ohtani seems to have assessed the situation and didn't think that Morris evinced any kind of racial insensitivity.

As OutKick founder Clay Travis says, society has been conditioned to overreact first, then ask questions later, in order to foment cancel-worthy moments. Ohtani's honest response to Morris' controversy demonstrates reasonableness and a thick skin, which is always welcome.
