Mets President Says Potential GM's Are Reluctant To Come To New York

Nothing is going right for the Mets this offseason.

General manager Zack Scott was let go last week following a DWI arrest. New York is still on the hunt for a president of baseball operations and a manager, after Luis Rojas was fired in early October. Mets president Sandy Alderson is now looking to fill three crucial positions. So far, no takers for the Big Apple.

"In some cases, we haven't gotten permission, in some cases, I think, people are comfortable where they are. ... And in other cases, I think, admittedly, there's a reluctance to come to New York," Alderson told SNY on Tuesday. "But I think it's mostly about New York, and not about (owner) Steven (Cohen) or the organization.

"It's a big stage, and some people would just prefer to be elsewhere."

Alderson entered the offseason with three candidates in mind for president of baseball operations: the Athletics' Billy Beane, the Brewers' David Stearns and former Red Sox and Cubs executive Theo Epstein. All three turned down the Mets.

In addition, the Cardinals' Mike Girsch, the Dodgers' Brandon Gomes and the Red Sox's Raquel Ferreira have all turned down offers from the Mets.

Alderson has struck out almost as much as opponents facing Jacob DeGrom. Candidates are simply looking for a better environment than the one in New York.

"If you're looking to be comfortable, the Mets are probably not the place to come," Alderson said.
