Crack a Cold One: Ohtani Will Be In The Home Run Derby In Coors Field

Two-way Angels superstar Shohei Ohtani is officially participating in the home run derby at Coors Field in July, and we couldn't be more stoked. He made the announcement in a video posted on his Instagram:

Ohtani is currently third in the big leagues with 19 homers, so he should have a decent shot at winning this.

But what's even better about this news is that baseball has a compelling star willing to participate in this type of event. Normally, such gimmicks do little for a player, outside of maybe a cool looking trophy. They're more for fan experience. Not this time. Ohtani has become a sensation on social media and the excitement surrounding his HR power will only grow come July.

Who else could participate?

We'd like to think Yankees sluggers Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton will participate alongside Ohtani, but don't count on it. Those two have struggled to stay on the field the last couple of years, and it wouldn't surprise anyone for them to focus on the season. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. would also be a solid choice. He already gave us an epic showdown with Pete Alonso back in 2019, so maybe he gives us an encore? Who knows.

Either way, it's Sho time.
