Back Like He Never Left: Mercedes Heads Back To Baseball

Yermín Mercedes' retirement lasted just longer than a virgin in a strip club. Less than 24 hours after abruptly announcing his retirement from baseball, Mercedes pulled a Brett Favre and decided to give this whole baseball thing another go. The Mercedes news instantly becomes the biggest un-retirement announcement by a Chicago minor leaguer since a guy named Jordan faxed "I'm Back."

A translation of Mercedes' Instagram post says: "I'm never going to give up. I spent 10 years in the minor league and I have always understood that this is a big and long process but the talent that I have shown speaks for itself. With the greatest humility and speaking from the heart ... my dream is to be an established player in the major leagues. I asked God to give me that opportunity and I've got it 3 months ago. I owe myself to my family, my organization and my fans. I asked again for forgiveness if I have failed them."

He continued by thanking God for guidance and announced his intentions to return to the game.

The 28-year-old White Sox rookie burst onto the scene this spring, hitting .415 with 5 homers and 16 RBIs in April. But Chicago's newest star quickly fell back to earth. He batted just .150 over his final 31 big league games, resulting in a demotion to Triple A.

Seemingly distraught over heading back to the minors, Mercedes declared his intentions to step away from the game, posting: "it's over" to his Instagram on Wednesday night. By Thursday evening, he'd had another change of heart.

History tells us he should last a little longer the second time around.
