Another Historic Night For Angels' Shohei Ohtani

At this rate, the Los Angeles Angels, and soon, Major League Baseball are going to need to rename their record books. The “Ohtani Files” seems appropriate. Angels’ megastar Shohei Ohtani spent his Friday evening doing laps around the franchise’s record books, just days removed from being named June’s American League Player of the Month. After going yard in back to back plate appearances, Ohtani leads the majors with 30 home runs. His 66 RBI are third-best in the league.

Ohtani's 30 bombs prior to the All-Star game are an Angels franchise record. But his offensive fireworks aren't limited to the lumber. He's also stolen 12 bases through the first half of the season. Friday night, Ohtani's wheels were on full display. He stole second in the bottom of the ninth inning, then raced home moments later when Jared Walsh singled. Ohtani's slide gave the Angels an 8-7 walk-off win at the hands of Baltimore.

During his do-it-all performance, Ohtani became the first American League player ever to accumulate at least 30 home runs and 10 stolen bases in the first half (81 games) of a season. Two National Leaguer's with decent resumes have accomplished the same feat: Sammy Sosa and former Angel Albert Pujols.

If there's one pitcher in the MLB who may be able to avoid having their mug plastered throughout Ohtani's highlights, it may Ohtani himself. When he's not at the dish, the modern-day Babe Ruth has gone 3-1 as a starting pitcher with 83 strikeouts in just 60 innings.
