We now know the face behind “who shot Ashli Babbitt.” It’s Michael Byrd, a 28-year veteran of the U.S. Capitol Police Department. To end speculation, Byrd unmasked himself. He has bravely decided to come forward. Thus, politicians and the press have gathered together to thank Byrd for executing the unarmed Ashli Babbitt.
In an on-camera interview Thursday, Byrd told NBC’s Lester Holt that he saved many lives by killing Babbitt. His actions took courage, he says.
“I know that day, I saved countless lives,” he said.
Ohh. So by killing an unarmed protestor, Byrd saved many lives. Too many to count.
Take a look:
In an exclusive interview with @LesterHoltNBC, Capitol Police Lieutenant Michael Byrd describes why he’s choosing to identify himself. Byrd shares his account of the January 6 riot, as officers barricaded the door and he fired a single shot, killing Ashli Babbitt. pic.twitter.com/Q4n7zUqS6N

There’s a discussion regarding whether Byrd’s actions were justified. U.S. Capitol Police concluded in an internal investigation they were “lawful and within Department policy.” However, not condemning an officer’s shooting is entirely different from celebrating him for pulling the trigger and then declaring him a savior. Byrd is undoubtedly aiming for the latter response.
“That’s my job,” Byrd explains.
Not all heroes wear capes. Just put Byrd’s face on a billboard with that slogan now.
Later in the interview, Byrd revealed that he is the real victim in this situation. “They talked about killing me, cutting off my head,” Byrd says of his critics.
Holt interrupted and asked whether the threats Byrd received were “racist.” Byrd didn’t deny that. Injecting race into the story adds a new element, after all.
As Matt Walsh points out, it’s inconceivable that any media outlet would present a sycophantic interview with the two subjects’ skin colors reversed. Were Byrd white and Babbitt black, the story would read simply: “White Cop Murders Unarmed Black Woman.”
Then, there would be riots in the streets and buildings would’ve burned. In other words, the reaction would be “mostly peaceful.”
Ask yourself: when was the last time you celebrated a cop for killing an unarmed man or woman? If your answer is “never” — which is likely — why have you made an exception for Ashli Babbitt? Before you answer, hopefully, NBC can explain its doubled standard.
So keep all of this in mind as Michael Byrd makes the rounds on CNN, ABC, NBC, and CBS, and then gets rich off a tell-all book. Byrd will have a lot to tell, by the way. He’s been a victim for years. Just ask him.
In 2019, Byrd left his Glock 22 pistol inside a bathroom at the Capitol Visitor’s Center. According to Byrd, the department despicably responded by treating him “differently.” What does that mean? Byrd didn’t say, but he told his colleagues that he was “treated differently” for his mild mistake of leaving a Glock in the open for someone to grab.
Root for Michael Byrd. He deserves it, haven’t you heard him say?
